What is an Antibody Test?
Antibody tests are blood tests that check for Covid-19 antibodies, which indicate that you have had the virus in the past. It is currently believed that those with Covid-19 antibodies present are safer from becoming infected with or passing on the virus, although it’s not a guarantee that you cannot be re-infected. Because people with Covid-19 antibodies are much lower-risk than others, this information is useful for healthcare facilities and other essential businesses trying to keep their employees safe.
Who Should Get a Covid-19 Antibody Test?
Covid-19 antibody tests are intended for those who previously tested positive for the virus and have since recovered. It can also be administered to those who were not tested for the virus but had its symptoms and have since recovered. In both cases, patients should wait at least 14 days after first experiencing symptoms to have the antibody test.
People who are currently experiencing symptoms should not get an antibody test, as this test cannot tell you if you have Covid-19, only if you had it in the past.
